DC VegFest 2016

As a local resident in Northern Virginia, I’m always excited to visit the annual DC VegFest at the Yards Park in Washington, DC,  located next to the Stadium where the local baseball team, the Nationals (the Nats), play.  This event is organized by Compassion Over Killing and brings dozens of vendors and hundreds of vegans, vegetarians, or anyone interested in learning more about animal friendly and healthy foods.  Best of all is that it's a free event with free samples of food and drinks. Some of my favorite vendors, and to be honest, every other vegan in DC as well, are Vegan Treats, Craft Kombucha, and others.

A Hint of Fall at Quattro Goomba’s Winery

Piney River Red 2012 is a red blend with apparent hints of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.  This is a youthful, medium dark wine, with a slight haze and a hue resembling garnet. The wine has moderate aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, peppercorn, distinct black fruits, and earthy aromas.   The wine is medium sweet, with a medium body and tart, and medium level round tannins.  Piney River Red is unbalanced with excess tannins and sugars, as well as noticeable legs.  In regards to flavor, it has a flavorful intensity with noticeable hints of black pepper, cherries, strawberries, bark, bubblegum, and dark plum.  The wine also has a long finish, lasting about 5 to 8 seconds.  Lastly, this wine has a metallic aftertaste flavor, potentially associated with brettanomyces.
